It's genuinely embarrassing to the human condition (OK, the US condition to be fair) how some people can be so obtuse and still come to hold even an inkling of power.

Because too many of Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord's "stupid and diligent" are in charge:

"I divide my officers into four groups. There are clever, diligent, stupid, and lazy officers. Usually two characteristics are combined. Some are clever and diligent -- their place is the General Staff. The next lot are stupid and lazy -- they make up 90 percent of every army and are suited to routine duties. Anyone who is both clever and lazy is qualified for the highest leadership duties, because he possesses the intellectual clarity and the composure necessary for difficult decisions. One must beware of anyone who is stupid and diligent -- he must not be entrusted with any responsibility because he will always cause only mischief."

Santorum really is one of our worst (former) politicians.  I agree, it's depressing he was ever elected (thanks a lot, Pennsylvania).  And it's rather disturbing that he thinks he has a shot at the presidency (thanks a lot, Teabaggers).  He doesn't, of course, but the fact that he even thinks he has a serious chance kind of bums me out.

Is 'santorum' Latin for gyroscope?  He's got more spin than one!

Let's teach i.d. - er - maybe not ...
