2011-02-11 13:01:44sks.to Short URLs now working
John Cook

I've got the sks.to domain working so it now redirects directly to SkS rebuttals. So every published skeptic argument now has a short URL, handy for tweeting and comments or just giving to people - much easier to remember these URLs. Here's the page I'm going to publish on the website:

I'm going to publish this shortly but once it's published, all these short URLs are locked in stone. They can't be changed otherwise short URLs given out will become defunct. So I would appreciate if everyone could have a look at the following list and suggest any improvements. The goal is always to be as short as possible but also intuitive so it's easy to remember:

I just wrote out a whole response after going through each one of these, and right before I was about to submit it I forgot and pressed the WYSIWYG button... boom, whole post gone. :-( A fix for that would be nice!

Let me see what I can remember:

/greenland -- used twice. I propose "green" for "greenland was green"

/500 -- Hopefully you're going to want to do /18 -> Hockey Stick, in which case 500 is a bit close for comfort.

/decline -- I propose "trick" since it's shorter and arguably easier to understand with no more context.

/noaa -- I propose "dropped". And why is that page not listed on the arguments page and commentless?

/co2 -- a bit vague. Maybe "ourco2" or "mansco2"

Lastly, I think all the initialisms should be lowercase (e.g. acrim) so that people don't have to remember whether they are or not (e.g. co2 is never capitalized).

Have made most of these changes and a few others also. Feedback very much appreciated!

Thanks for all the work on this, John! Are we going to be able to link to arguments by their number as well? (E.g. sks.to/18 goes to the "Hockey Stick is broken" rebuttal.) That would be a great addition. The number would need to be the one used on the fixed numbers page, obviously.
