I just resurrected my PC from the dead.  For the 2nd time this year.

This time it had no output to the monitor (not even a BIOS screen), power to the USB keyboard or the mouse.

The only clue that I had that it wasn't stone dead was the power light on the tower.  And that it would turn itself back on 1 minute after I would manually turn it off (OK, maybe that part was demonic possession).

I be feelin' lucky, punks.  :)

Time of death, 8:15 am, Wednesday July 6th, 2011.

RIP, POS PC.

The 3rd death was a real killer.

POS = Piece Of Sh*t (crap)

Yup, 7-ish in computer years is like being from the Triassic

Getting page fault lockups; PC doesn't stay operational long enough to troubleshoot possible corrupted file issues or hardware issues.  Just freezes solid, forcing a manual hard boot.  Managed to pull my Favorites out of Firefox; everything else already was backed up (I think).

Too tired to fight the inevitable.  Starting a job soon, will have to budget for a replacement.

In the meantime, moderating from the un-smart phone and sneaking onto my wife's laptop when she isn't looking (heh)...

Yooper, yeah know what POS means, just couldn't see why you were complaining. A lot of people I know get half of that life expectency in their PC's.

Most people probably don't do their own repairs/upgrades...mine was more cyborg than dana...(heh)

I'd gotten to the point that I was expecting to keep the old girl running indefinitely; hubris, my brother.  Hubris.

Tired of fighting a continual rear-guard action against data loss & maintaining functionality.  It became like bailing a sinking boat with a sieve.  Ah, well.  There is a time and a place for every thing...and every one.

Guess we're alike in that regard, I've done all my upgrades/repairs too. I hate the helplessness of not knowing how things work (I mean the overall basics) so I'm self-taught in a lot of things, and build a lot of my own stuff. Fingers crossed, my old girl (PC) is coming up 8 years now.

And congrats on the new job. I'm now in the throes of hunting for a new job.

That describes me on the PC as well.  All self-taught, can't stand not knowing how things work (I've even built a PC out of parts - a real PITA, though)...

Sorry to hear that you'll be job-hunting, but hope it's for the best!  I've been underemployed for 5 months now, so hopefully your job market is in better shape than ours!
