I always knew Nigel's Twitter bot was pretty cool. It took a number of back-and-forth emails between us before I could even understand how it works. Then a few days ago, Technology Review published an article about the Twitter bot which is a great account of how it works: http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/mimssbits/25964/ Then over the last day or so, the news has gone viral including WUWT: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/11/04/desperation-robotic-twitter-bot-spoofs-climate-change-deniers/ Now that its hit the denialosphere, Nigel is starting to cop flack from skeptics (but in that same kind of grudging "why didn't we think of it first" manner - look at the first comment on the WUWT page). Great work, Nigel!

The flack isn't that bad, all a bit of fun really. As for work as my wife is the CEO ( not sure how she got the big office and I do all the work but never mind) so unless Tina's going to sack me that'll be fine too.
2010-11-05 16:06:03 | Boss wife

Wow, Nigel, it's like looking in a mirror. Wendy is the boss of PaperWeb Design, which is essentially my day job, and I just do web programming for her all day. Of course, I'm seriously neglecting the day job with all this climate business and I'm starting to get pressure from the boss to spend more work on paid jobs.

You know you're making an impact when Morano has a crack at you: which links to a CFACT article attacking Nigel: http://www.cfact.org/a/1836/Alarmist-spammer-unleashes-Twitterbot-to-stifle Nigel, be glad Morano doesn't have your email - otherwise you would be receiving a flood of abuse from his followers right now. |
