Here's a nice email to receive upon landing in San Francisco and checking my email...

We will come for you alarmists one day for the harm you have caused mankind.

Funny, that's the same sentiment a lot of people feel towards the deniers.

Welcome to the Northern Hemisphere, John.  You landed in a good part of it, too :-)

That disappeared a decade ago.  And then some.  I more resemble a great bear...

Alas poor denier...

Technical question, would this kind of thing be on the FBI or CIA territory as the likely threat is directed toward a foreigner on US soil? Or is this a local police issue? Or should John contact Australian embassy on this?

Dunno. JC is in America. His home base is Brisbane. The SkS servers are in Perth. The threatener is in LaLaLand. Who has jurisdiction.

However JC, It might be worth sending an email or something to the AFP about such threats even though most are just noise. Since the servers are in Aussie jurisdiction it might be worth flagging with them that you are getting this sort of stuff. Better safe than sorry. The Aussies can work with the ISP to backtrack more easily than the US Authorities can.

Not saying this is a big issue but just worth putting yourself (and us to a much leser extent) on the authorities radar

But shouldn't FBI be informed of potential domestic threats if the IP can be tracked to US? If I was paranoid the talk about 'one day' could mean the threatener is part of a larger organization (his 'we') that plans a massive 'coming for alarmists' on a pre-set day. I know FBI keeps an eye also on terrorism on US soil, but these kinds of messages could be a valuable resource on the study of domestic terrorism.

Yep, but the FBI, CIA, NSA, Oz AFP etc will get a lot of this stuff and work together a lot (read up about Echelon sometime). So yes it needs to be put on the radar. My point is that the Oz AFP is the better starting point in this.

Just one of those simple insurance things. Take out your insurance then put it in the bottom draw.

"read up about Echelon sometime", ok, according to wikipedia that means that FBI and those others may already know of this, as the message has crossed borders. I guess it wouldn't be advisable to post messages linking tea party with terrorism, since we don't know if it's their turf to link green organizations with it. It would be copy-catting and demeaning to (me at least) use the same sort of false associations against a group without evidence. So it may be best to judge these threats to be products of deranged individuals though the 'one day' meme has come up before.

It's nice to see that the SkS crew has a sense of humor.

Now let me show you one response that I got while posting at Steven Goddard's site. I'm Ill wind, I've had to reincarnate a couple times at his website. Note Goddard's response to me at the bottom of the screenshot.

Let's not worry too much; he/she/they/it will probably start with Gays and Lesbians followed by abortion doctors and atheists before we come up.

Everyone who's not one of them has a lot to worry about.

And isn't it ironic how they keep prattling about us going to Hell? It seems we'll have them for company.

villabolo - No, that would be stalking. Not nice.

John should just report it to proper people and authorities - such as (for example) the ISP hosting this idjit, and perhaps this person's local police...
