Methinks not. The taste of the comments is different. And Jose X posts from Miami, Florida. Jdey123 always posts from England.

JH, I always appreciate the passion and dedication you bring to SkS.

But...(and some may think pots and kettles) your moderation of Jose X's comments was too harsh.  In fairness, all participants are different persons (at least the ones not masqueraded by Jdey123): they think differently, they express themselves differently and they process information at different rates.

In Jose X's case, I think his thought process expresses itself linearly/sequentially in his writings.  To those who are used to multi-tasking and processing things more in parallel it can come across as a "scratch-pad" process.  In fairness to both you and Jose X, it would be best for you to resolve this situation, as my take on Jose X is that he is being genuine.  And he had a point about teaching moments.

So please, use this as a teaching moment and rectify this situation.

Thank you.

Yooper,

While I appreciate your concerns, there's not much I can do to "rectify the situation." If Jose posts more comments I will not moderate them.

Jose_X doesn't appear to be in pure denial - but my, the signal to noise ratio of his posts is low.

I cannot tell if he actually agrees with (for example) Scafetta - but he keeps saying "There may be something to it..."

Jose_X seems intent on gumming up the comment threads. I beleive we should actively and agressively discourage this behavior.

I disagree in Jose_X's case.  Most strenuously.

Yooper,

I've given Jose_X a pass and an apology.

That said, I still believe that he is a very knowledgeable denier playing the country bumpkin role to the hilt.

One tip-off to his true character is his repeated referencing of the Comments Policy. The average country bumpkin would not do that.

I see your point, JH.  But one thing moderators must ask themselves (which I have had knocked through my thick skull on multiple occasions) is that we must divorce ourselves of all emotion and personal opinions when placing comments into the moderator's box.  And to stay on-task with the enforcement of the Comments Policy as it currently stands.  Which sucks.

Anything else to say must be said in a comment of our own, as ourselves.  And yes, I know that that is a PITA, especially if one wishes to post multiple images in a savage and thorough rebuttal of troll-nonsense.  But it is the RIGHT thing to so.

A better moderation policy to practice is to simply snip/excise the offending portions of a comment which are clearly off-topic or otherwise in violation of the Comments Policy.  Beats warning people.  Easier, too, as we then don't get called out in the moderation forum...

:)

Yooper,

Patience is not my strong suit. That is why I rarely exercise my Moderator status. In this particular case, I concluded that some shots across the bow were warranted -- not only to send a message to Jose_X, but also to send a message to any denier drones lurking around.

Yooper,

PS - Any time you want to do a "good cop, bad cop" routine on someone let me know.

JH, when that time is needed we can do so.  Hopefully we won't have to, as it indicates a split in moderation practices.  If you want to put the "smack-down" on someone, feel free to do it in a normal comment.  That's what I do.  Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, though.
