Francesca Grifo* has posted an excellent easay about EPA's handling of the scientific evidence that supports regulation of greenhouse gases on the Union of Concerned Scientists website.  Joe Romm has repost her essay on climate Progress. Should SkS follow suit?

BTW, Grigo's iniital post was on Sep 27. She updated it on Sep 28 to comment on the EPA Inspector General's report on the EPA's Endangerment Finding.

*Francesca Grifo is an expert on political interference in science and practices to ensure transparency and integrity at the intersection of science and policy. What at first blush, seemed to be a rther innocuous EPA Inspector General Report has caused Sen Inhofe heartburn:

"This report confirms that the endangerment finding, the very foundation of President Obama's job-destroying regulatory agenda, was rushed, biased, and flawed," Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) said in a statement. "It calls the scientific integrity of EPA's decision-making process into question and undermines the credibility of the endangerment finding."

The above quote is from an in-depth article about the report:

"New IG Report Faults Process in EPA's Greenhouse Gas Assessments "

Unfortumately, what is a rather innocuous report on procedure, including that the OMB agreed that the EPA didn't have to classify the review as being at the highest level of significance rather than the next level down, is actually mana from heaven for the GOP/Tea Partiers who want to go after the Endangerment Finding. Procedurally innocuous, political dynamite. Expect Supreme Court challenges about the validity of the EF on the back of this. Obama & the EPA will need to get their scates on over this. Just stonewalling that its all OK, even if the Supreme Court don't rule is still political poison for Obama. And corrective steps are just as damaging. What was the EPA thinking, not ticking every last tiny procedural box it could find on this one? Jesus wept!!

Gawd Michaels is such a dick. Basically he throws the entire IPCC report out the window because of the himalayan glacier error. One mistake in thousands of pages and suddenly the report is worthless. His bias is just so flagrantly obvious it's sickening.

Unfortunately, one heck of a lot of business people in the US read Forbes and probably glom on to the poppycock that Michaels spreads in his columns.

Patrick Michaels complaining about bad science is like Vlad the Impaler complaining about a splinter.

As to his frequent complaints about funding for those naughty scientists, he dips into quite a few pots himself.

Check at the bottom of his c.v. at the Society of Environmental Journalists.
