A good cartoonist should be able to capture the essential physical characteristics that distinguish the person being caricatured. On that basis alone, an epic fail.

I have to confess I admire the quality of the cartoon work. Significant effort went into that. I can see how Bishop Hill was motivated to keep this non-issue an issue. If I had someone put that much work into a cartoon, I'd be tempted bend reality too in order to use it. (I stress "tempted")

Watts posted it too. After saying we need to have more civil discourse and avoid ad homs. And he made a joke about my AR4 post, after he royally screwed up the analyis of the cloud cover paper. Hypocrisy doesn't even begin to describe it.

This belongs in the “Lucia attacks dana” thread also. It’s only an idea and let me say nothing will stop denier website attacks. But now there is starting to be a history of “blow things out of all proportion” attacks on SkS, this could be brought to public attention using article/s written by high profile journalist/s (eg George Monbiot) or a utube video done (eg Peter Hadfield). Number of attacks is already being recorded but detailed history needs to be longer before malicious intent can be proven and there is a story worth telling. Something to think about and there may be pitfalls?

No, we can't stoop to their level. Not that I'm opposed to cartoons - they're great, but we can't make them personal attacks like the deniers have been doing. They're making themselves look really bad right now - let them. I left a comment on the WUWT thread by the way. Couldn't resist pointing out Watts' massive hypocrisy :-)

John H: I must agree with dana and neal. There is a time to attack (usally to press or to gain an advantage); however, the gains vs costs must be weighed. In any contest between SkS and the denialists, the philosophical and scientific high ground position we occupy must be retained. Skirmishes and sortees that do not meet satisfy those conditions and objectives should not be pursued, no matter the transitory emotional euphoria derived. However, it would be fun, for a bit. In much the same fashion as cheating on one's diet. Then costs must be calculated and pipers paid...

What about toon showing John Cook flying in a Superman like suit with "SkS" emblazened on his chest heading straight into an incoming "Denial Myth" missle? Our toons do not have to directly attack the dorks at Bishop Hill.

John Hartz, the denier game is to get people to switch of from listening to science. They have a massive advantage in that task, science is complicated, subtle and exacting. People's natural laziness already inclines many of them to switch of from science. IMO that is exacerbated by an animosity prompted by a subconsciously recognized undestanding that they are less intelligent than most scientists. If they get to think about how stupid the scientists are because they do not recognize some simple, obvious "fact", they get a real thrill out of their percieved superiority - a thrill they cannot earn by honest thought and study. To make things worse, science is now telling them very uncomfortable truths.
Given this, giving people an excuse to swithch of on science is always a bad tactic. A Supercook or SkSman cartoon is asking for trouble.

Was waiting for someone to notice and freak out. I still need a handful of comments for each condition of our blogging experiment so I created a new user account, partly so it's not confusing having comments from the "author" of the blog posts and secondly, having a Lubos comment might've got some attention and attracted a few SkSers into the threads (that idea didn't pan out at all). Anyway, while I have your attention, the links for the 4 conditions are:
All I need is a few more comments in each thread, to get it up to 10 comments each, so please go in there and post a strongly pro-warmist or pro-skeptic comment to help with our experiment. Thanks!
