I think most of us by now have come to the conclusion that we have more to gain than to lose from changing this name: It offends some readers, even friendly readers; so it must alienate some neutral readers. It's "cuteness" is not an asset, because for a portion of the readership (including me), it has an immediate and unavoidable reminder of the phrase "crock of sh*t". We've had a number of comments that SkS should "keep to a higher level" (and not by me!). So we need to decide on a new name. JC is our final decider, but let's see if we can converge on one or two proposals. Yes?

Christy's Mythsteries is still my favorite. Christy's Confusions is good too, but too similar to Carter Confusion.

I'll put forward "Christy's Cuckoos" The cuckoos are the bad-faith arguments that usurpt the rightful role of legitimate science in the public's view

Christy's Canards (bit harsh) Christy's Conundrums Prof. Christy (migh not be worth labelling the button with more than the title, dull perhaps, but unarguably non-ad-hominemic)

This would only work in Canada, but the icon is already built! "Christy's Swiss Cheese Crackers"... Oh, wait, we're supposed to be playing nice. Hehe, just kidding.

I think swiss cheese has already been earmarked for something else

Of the bunch suggested above, I like Dikran's "Christy's Conundrums" the best.

A few moths ago, I suggeted that SkS create a "Swiss Cheese Chronicles" series and many of you thought it was a good idea to do so. Alas, moving ahead on this has been lost in the shuffle.

Forget it, it's just a Canadian thing. Nabisco/Kraft crackers and cookies are branded as "Christie" in Canada. I wasn't serious.

I think i\I read someone suggestiong on the first Blimp thread that SkS could rename it "Christy confusion" (Wingding). He is electing to confuse people and confuse the science. IMHO it is perfect and speaks to what he is doing (sowing doubt and confusion), and not saying that he is confused. We also have, from that thread: Christy's mysteries (Hartz) Christy's incredulities" (NealK) Chrsity's confusions (Bern) [I like that one too] Or "Christy's swiss cheese", surely swiss chese is not copyrighted. and yes, his science does have lots of holes in it. |
