2011-07-15 06:44:24 | SkS passes two essentially meaningless yet nonetheless satisfying thresholds
John Cook john@skepticalscience... 121.222.9.229 |
SkS has been hovering around the 100,000 threshhold at alexa.com for a while. We cracked the 100,000 mark overnight. This means SkS is now in the top 100,000 websites ranked by traffic. I know you have to take Alexa rankings with a huge grain of salt (note how noisy the signal is although my direct stats show a much steadier incline) but nevertheless, it is a difficult threshhold to get over so is satisfying to see it happen: Also, the # of SkS twitter fans went past @wattsupwiththat on Wednesday: There was a betting pool on when we would pass WUWT. The official final date is 13 July. That means the winner is... ... Daniel Bailey with 21 July! Congratulations, Daniel, you win the satisfaction of beating us all :-)

Nice!! This is only the beginning. Over the course of the next 10 years I think SkS is going to play a very important role in helping people both understand the disinformation that is being peddled out there and become a gateway for people to begin learning about the real science.

So what is Dan's reward? If he ever makes it out my way, free beer and boarding ;)

Looks from that graph like we passed them earlier in July. I demand a recount!

2011-07-15 12:55:10 | Twitter graph

The graph is a little weird - if you mouseover over the actual graph at twitter counter, the dates are out of sync. So I was forced to actually look at @skepticscience and @wattsupwiththat each day over the last week to see the # of followers and we went past them on Wednesday. Sorry Dana, this time you don't win :-)

I blame my loss on the faulty graph! I don't like to lose :-)
2011-07-15 16:11:47 | Yes, when I realised the graph showed the dates out of sync...

... suddenly my Aug 1 was back in the picture again! Just a few more weeks and I could've got there. Oh well, not a bad guess in the end.

I don't understand how anyone can claim a rising trend. The data for May 13, 14 and 15 show a clear trend towards zero readers, and I shall inform Anthony of that fact at once! |
