That's a great vido.  I posted it here and asked Sphaerica if he might be able to develop it into a blog post.

Saw it over at Hot Topic. Do you think there might be a common thread to all those extreme weather phenomena?

We could easily incorporate this video into Sunday's edition of the Weekly Digest.

We have a drought here in the South/South East England.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13722013

I finally took the decision to water the young Oak that we financed the planting of earlier in the year. The leaves are light green and yellowing in some places. Took two 5L containers over this afternoon. We have some rain forecast over the next few days, but we have had at least two months with negligible rain. Hope I'm not to late.

I gather that the same drought problem is occuring across Northern Europe.

Regarding the video. Probably falls into politics and environmentism categories rather than science.

Well, Norway has had a very dry spring, but all news papers are now covering record rainfall and floods for the last week.

From our weather forcast service yr.no (a very bad google translate):

- So much rain you can just wait out here once every 25-50. years. That says something about how extreme it is, explains Isaksen.

I guess we have our share of global weirding, from very dry conditions, to very very wet ;-)

Great video!

Oslo,

Same in China drought to floods.....odd, but I recall that happening way back when I lived in Africa (farmers went from praying for rain to praying for it to stop, all in one season), so it would be interesting to see whetehr or not the data suggest that is happening more or less often now.

"I guess we have our share of global weirding, from very dry conditions, to very very wet"

Certain parts of the world during the PETM saw exactly this same thing - seasonally dry periods followed by truly massive flooding. And we've seen a doubling or tripling of the most extreme precipitation, in some areas, during the last few decades.
