This sounds like something that Rob will be interested in.

Coincidentally, Ove H-G just sent me a rough draft of his 'Great Barrier Reef is fine' rebuttal, which is extremely thorough and talks about acidification.  This study might be worth a post too.

Didn't know about that area Alby, in the coral calcification rebuttals (yeah, yeah I'll finish it eventually!) I mention Ischia, an island off the coast of Italy, where the same thing occurs, CO2, in the absence of other volcanic gases, bubbles up through vents in the seafloor. Same deal, hardly anything lives there and marine life has had millenia to adapt. I've linked to a scientist's video of the area too.

On a related topic, I've also found papers where a similar thing happens on land (only CO2 venting) in a forest. Similarly life hasn't flourished there either, quite the opposite.

I'll draft up a post on this (CO2 venting) later in the week, if y'all think it needs addressing.

I'll start writing something up for this tonight, that way I can link to the post in the calcification rebuttal, shorten the intermediate and advance versions a bit, and deal with this on it's own too.

I've written the post but realized my gaffe when I tried to add the pictures. Cheers mate. (Paintingskeri@vodafone.co.nz)

Hi Rob,

Sorry I can't access the paper in question as my uni does not have access to Nature Climate Change (IIRC it is a new journal, so they are not up to speed yet).  Aaargh!

Ended up getting a years subscription to Nature Climatechange, couldn't be bothered fluffing around with the post any longer.
