2011-05-24 07:32:33Marc Morano targets my co-author Haydn Washington
John Cook

Warmist Haydn Washington, co-author of 'Climate Change Denial' claims 'Denial is a delusion that has become a pathology' -- Cites 97% agreement claim as 'proof' of AGW haywash@bigpond.com Visit Site

What is interesting/disturbing about this is how he got Haydn's email. It's not public knowledge, Haydn's email, but he included it in the letter that went with our book to every Australian Federal MP. So seems to me likely that Morano got Haydn's email from one of our Federal MPs. If so, very telling and disturbing that one of America’s worst denier disinformers has a direct line to Aussie Federal MPs.

Anyway, I'll take the tin-foil hat off now :-)

Publishing someone elses email address like that is an abusive act. Someone only does that if they are either extremely naive or wants the address owner to be spammed.

Morano has no respect for anyone or anything. He's really nasty and immoral.

Stay away from him unless you can physically beat him :)

And yes, you should expect MPs to do this sort of things.

It's standard practice for Morano, but that is a bit disturbing that he's communicating with Australian MPs.  I guess we shouldn't be surprised though.  Those deniers are really well organized and interconnected in general.

It's stuff like this that actually scares me.  Morano is extremely callous about what the implications are of posting people's private information.  He stirs the pot and then sicks the unhinged fringe on people.  You just know at some point it's going to end up bad.

It just shocks me that a person can be that lacking of a moral compass.

I've gotten used to Morano's complete lack of ethics or decency. I'm only glad he doesn't seem to have my email yet although john@skepticalscience.com hardly requires Da Vinci Code style cyphers to figure out.

But what disturbs me is the possible close connection between Australian Federal MPs and the likes of Morano. Did Nick Minchin get our book, note Haydn's email and ship it off to the denier network in the US? A troubling thought.

I suspect that a number of Australian MPs are in the pockets of Ruppert Murdoch.

Regardless, the Climate Denial Spin Machine that Murdoch and the Koch brothers have built is international in scope. Morano is just another cog in the wheel.

The Borg have become a symbol in popular culture for any juggernaut against which "resistance is futile". The Borg manifest as cybernetically-enhanced humanoid drones of multiple species, organized as an interconnected collective, the decisions of which are made by a hive mind,

As for Marc Morono, ignore him...except for the FOIPing the MPs emails that is ;)  FOIP (or the Oz equivalent) is too aggressive to start off with.  How about a polite email to all the MPs describing what has happened.  Maybe someone will step forward, or out the guilty party.  That way they know you guys are paying attention.

That is annoying.

Maybe a partial prophylactic would be to set up & publish, in advance, a new special email address as a contact point for high-profile (likely to be targetted) activities? That would stop people looking further for one's personal email address.

Just heard from Haydn, the email he put in the letter is different to the email Morano uses. So Morano must have googled to get that old email of Haydn's (which is now defunct).

So Aussie MPs are (hopefully) not as closely networked with the denialosphere as I originally feared. Good to be wrong. Turns out Morano is just a nasty piece of work.

I dunno about characterising the denialosphere as Borg - that's a nickname I also go under as I'm always trying to assimilate others into the SkS collective (and a few other SkSers are also actively assimilating others into our community so the SkS collective seems to be self-propogating just as the Borg goes). But in a nice way, not an evil sticking-assimilation-tubes-into-victim-necks kind of way.
