Are the media in other countries paying any attention to the Texas wildfires and the Mississippi floods?

Should SkS give them as much attention as it gave to the Australia floods of last year?

Italian newspapers covered the wildfires in Texas and the flood of the Mississipi roughly as much as the flood in Australia. While classifying both as exceptional, just a few linked them to climate change.

If anyone have the time it could be worth to post a summary of the 2010-2011 extreme weather.

Yeah, agree with ya Riccardo, it's been a heck of a last 18 months, as far as weather is concerned. I thought Badger was working on something to do with extreme weather?

I believe that you are referring to our discussion about the Jeff Master's primer on Extreme Weather published as part of NewScientisits "instant Expert" series.

http://www.newscientist.com/data/doc/teaser/mm/201010/instant_expert_4_-_extreme_weather.pdf

After reading Master's paper in more detail, I concluded that it would not be appropriate to do a blog post on it because Master's does not discuss the linkage between extreme weather events and clmate change.

I then proceed to peruse the MWO website and dsicovered that it had recently published the report, Weather Extremes in a Changing Climate: Hindsight on Foresight.  This report documents and analyzes the extreme weather events of the past decade, 2001 to 2010, in the context of climate change.

I swear that I had done a General Chat about the WMO report either yesterday or the day before. If I did, it has disappeared.

Should SkS do a blog post about the WMO report?

I don't know Badger, I'm quite underwhelmed by the WMO report.

Any chance that John Cook could get Jeff Masters to post a guest author article on SkS about the climate change-severe flood connection? It could be an update of his article. "2001: Year of the Flood" posted on Wunderblog (Jan 21).

Texas drought has farmers on the ropes

West Texas farmers and ranchers struggle to survive the worst drought in the region since the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.

It's dry in the South of England.

The local paper wrote about a farmer who has started using winter feed for his cattle. In May! First time in decades (1976) according to the farmer.
The ground is dry. We are only getting really short showers.

With La Nina on it's way out, hopefully the people of Texas will get some relief soon.
