They're back! From today's press release:

I believe that intro ought to be looked at in detail. Take their own words and examine how they relate to the real world?

Hmmm perhaps a potential post even.

Help me out here, this is really just a quick off the cuff brainstorming notes - but . . . . . . .

~ ~ ~

Restoring the Scientific Method, acknowledges the fact that claims of scientific certainty and predictions of climate catastrophes are based on post-normal science,

{Perhaps some weather reports from the past couple years}

which substitutes claims of consensus for the scientific method.

{time for the list ~ }

This choice has had terrible consequences for science and society.

{ and Link Between Deadly Weather and Global Warming Is Real}

Abandoning the scientific method led to the Climategate scandal

{What does climategate have to do with science - Besides being a fabrication, it is a scandal nothing more - let's look at the science }

and the errors and abuses of peer review by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

{perhaps List IPCC's errors and self examination and reforms then compliment with a list of the errors and abuses that the denier echo-chamber is gulity of.

might make an interesting comparison regarding how science operates.

The learning process

as opposed to the

agenda driven politcal/PR process}

Any thoughts?

Lindzen and Christy aren't speaking?  Maybe they'll be late entries.

Some quick thoughts:

The theme of the conferenceRestoring the Scientific Method,

Good grief! Denialists finally start using scientific methods???

acknowledges the fact that claims of scientific certainty and predictions of climate catastrophes are based on post-normal science, which substitutes claims of consensus for the scientific method.

Isn't "post-normal" borrowed from Judith Curry???

This choice has had terrible consequences for science and society.

Suitably loaded yet non-specific and vague splicing-sentence....

Abandoning the scientific method led to the Climategate scandal

No, the climategate fake scandal was a desperate move by people who had no understanding of the scientific method in the first place so had to resort to skullduggery!

and the errors and abuses of peer review by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

I note Wegman is not amongst the listed keynote speakers ;)

Cheers - John

The new skeptic campaign appears to be based on the meme that science has deviated from the 'norm', this theme seems to be appearing on a number of blogs and forums. I suggested it is an organised effort.

Really? That would be ironic.

Can't find him on the list - has he been removed?

"claims of scientific certainty" they obviously haven't read the IPCC WG1 report then, which very deliberately steers well clear of claiming anything a scientific certainty.  Sadly the intended audience won't have read it either and will swallow the idea they do hook, line and sinker.

Chris Mooney has posted an excellent essay about the Heartland conference on DeSmog blog (May 23)

The Heartland Institute: Undermining Science in the Name of the "Scientific Method"

http://www.desmogblog.com/heartland-institute-undermining-science-name-scientific-method#comment-717187

Mooney's essay would make a nice SkS cross-post.
