The topic of funding keeps cropping up in the climate "debate".
My own view is that it doesn't matter who funds the research as long as the source of the funding is made prominent. It is notable that many universities are in receipt of grants from, e.g. the oil industry. It is also notable that these universities make a big splash on their websites when they get such funding, and the academics reveal the sources of funding in peer-reviewed papers.
By way of contrast, it is only after diligent research, freedom of information access and sometimes the discovery process in court cases that we learn where deniers get their money.
