About a month ago I pointed out to the author of this site that he had made a mistake in conflating a local temperature record (GISP2) with a global record (the 0.8C instrumental record).

He wrote back saying I was entirely correct and that he would update the graph shortly.  But it's been a month.

How much slack to I give him before writing up a post?

Have you tried a follow-up contact to see what's the holdup?

Just sent an email out.  I'm already starting to write up a piece.  I think if I don't get an adequate response posting an article may be a way of forcing the issue.

Humlum is the co-author on three of Ellestads (see separate thread) articles in Norway by the way.

Link to article in Norwegian ("The fundamental problem with the CO2-hypothesis")

Great with a global network of informers, isn't it ;-)

I just read a google translation of that article, oslo.  Very interesting.  Basically he sounds like a fairly reasonable skeptic but he gets at least one major point glaringly wrong.

He says that if CO2 theory is correct we should see equal warming at both poles, therefore this is a falsification of the CO2 hypothesis.  ...Huh?

Nowhere have I ever read this.  It strikes me as a colossal strawman argument.

It is a strawman, and debunked in a later response by Prestrud (Cicero) as I can recall.

Antarctic will of course warm (more) eventually, but it takes longer time due to lack of land surrounding Antarctic (Hansen, 2011 ?)

Sorry, Rasmus Benestad (RC) debunked the Antarctic claim in this article.

If I don't get an adequate response from Dr. Humlum I've written up a post correcting his chart that you can read here.

Good post Rob.  My only comment is that the added temp and CO2 data are both red, so when they overlap you can't tell which is which.  It would be helpful to change the color of one of them.

Arghhh!!!  :-)

Just read your first sentence of your artice:

- I'm on a Sisyphean quest to locate all the misuses of the GISP2 data from Alley 2000 and put them into proper context.

Don't expect everyone to be educated in philosophy - write in plain english and perhaps drop the "intelectual" reference to Sisyphus. If you wan't to educate the public, explain who Sisyphus was, if you don't - keep it out.

Sorry for pointing this out, there might of course be someone who actually know the story of Sisyphus.

Good point, oslo.  I'll expand on who Sisyphus is in the first paragraph.  I've also moved this over to the Blog Posts section for further discussion.

Ole Humlum is pretty reasonable to be honest. He was one of my profs while I studied in Oslo and he should respond accordingly. I will say that he can be a bit sneaky though so he might pretend to not have received anything. He is a very clever geomorphologist but is clearly in bed with certain industries... (his wife's work is funded by coal for example)

Robert Way: Ole Humlum is pretty reasonable to be honest.

I desagree on your opinion.

Humlum insists on creating his own meteorological standard for "normal period", and has created his own. He produces his own reports on his personal meteorological time period which is cherry picked to be a high start and end point. In my opinion this is false reporting and cherry picking at best.

Humlum should comply with meterological standard periods (which ever he chose), and not cherrypick his periode wich supports his personal belief.

Doesn´t look like he has updated the GISP2 figure - see figure 3 wich can be located off the front page through  the big picture.

So I think if we look carefully there is no way you can say Ole Humlum is pretty reasonable to be honest.
