Election coming in Canada (voted the world's *fossil of the year* by its peers)

link

It is the typical story (now it seems), right wing deniers versus left wing proponents. This can potentially shape a lot of things.

Hi Robert.

I sure do hope that the Liberals and othe ropposition parties have a few surprises up their sleeves!  Did you see that the Cons had CAN$35 million planned (over 5 years) for NSERC?  Badly needed now that CFCAS is over....

Yeah they put in place a lot of proposed funding for education but I think the canadian public are playing popularity instead of looking at actual policies. The CONS claim to be fiscally responsible and then it came out yesterday they're paying an additional 2.2 billion dollars for those jets than they promised (they still say the cost is 75 mil per plane even though the US budget oversight committee chair said they'll be at least 110 mil each). I started looking into it a bit and the JSF have a lower range, velocity, payload and altitudinal range than the cheaper alternatives by Sweden, France and Germany, makes me really dissapointed in this.

That money for NSERC is nowhere near what is needed, they cut environment canada's budget too and the department of fisheries and oceans budget while implementing corporate tax cuts.

It really makes me frustrated.

Top 6 reasons not to vote conservative
(1) 1st Government in Canadian History to be found in contempt of parliament
(2) Multiple ministers and senior party members under investigation for election fraud in... the infamous "in and out" fraud scheme
(3) Harper directed minister Bev Oda to alter a Canadian International Development Agency memo without informing the organization resulting in funding being lost of KAIROS
(4) Harper appointed more to the senate than any other prime minister and then proceeded to order them to block climate change legislation that had already passed through the house usurping the will of the people
(5) Harper tried to eliminate the mandatory long-form census which is used by researchers, planners and health officials from all across Canada to inform their decisionmaking.
(6) Harper tried to eliminate the long-gun registry despite the RCMP and police forces across the country saying that it should remain in place.

I live in the riding (electoral district) of Elizabeth May, the leader of the Canadian Green Party. She stands a reasonably good chance of getting elected as Canada's first Green MP. I have volunteered to help in her campaign and, as soon as I get back from Europe, I'll be knocking on doors, canvassing votes.

Unfortunately, she has been excluded from the Party Leaders' debates on TV. In the last election she was allowed into the debates and did a better job than anyone else in landing blows on Steven Harper, which may explain whay she is excluded this time.

The Green Party is the only party in this election with a credible policy on climate, which is why, for the first time in my life, I have chosen to get directly involved in politics.

Hi Andy,

Yup, pretty disgusting about May.  I have signed a petition.  Heck of the Bloc can be present, so should the Greens.

Good for you for getting involved. Best of luck!

The Australian Greens are excluded from leaders' debates as well.

I think May should be included but I do have problems with her overall strategy. 308 seats across canada just seems like her attempt to get the $2 per vote rather than to get elected constituents in every location. In fact I think that she should only run candidates in say 50 ridings where she could potentially have a chance rather than splitting the left in 308 seats... I mean we already had the NDP and the liberals sharing the same voter group, we do not need the greens running just for the sake of running splitting even further. If they wanna truly be a factor they'll focus rather than broaden.
