Dana,

Does a politican misrepresenting a scientist count?  For example, see this example at Deltoid of Bishop misrepresenting Dr. Joanne Simpson (deceased) in a major way.

The point of the politician quotes is to link them to the rebuttals database.  So it would only work if we had a rebuttal detailing Joanne Simpson's work.  But if we had a relevant rebuttal, yes, that would count.

I just added 22 quotes from the evil Dana (Rohrabacher)

The other day I added a few quotes from Australian conservative leader Tony Abbott. He claims he’s not a denier and that he believes climate change is real, but depending on the audience he shows his true colours by repeating a bunch of contrarian talking points.

Also, I found the following quote attributed to Abbott but have been unable to verify it:

"Climate change is a relatively new political issue, but it’s been happening since the earth’s beginning. The extinction of the dinosaurs is thought to have been associated with climate change." [source]

I saw you had some good quotes from Abbott there, James.

I added in all the relevant quotes from the recent Congressional hearing.

I'm getting the skeptic politician quotes page filled out pretty well, but I could sure use some help guys!  The cyborg thing is just a nickname.

Just added a few Inhofe quotes - but will add more on Mon/Tue/Wed (usually find it difficult setting aside large blocks of time on the weekends). Looking great, Dana.

Everyone, please support Dana and help build up the quotes resource - we don't want to burn out the cyborg!

Dana, when you say you've done the recent hearing, does that mean you've covered http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2011/03/15/koch-committee-climate-denial/ and the subcommittee hearing with the scientists (transcript here)?

If so, the sources to look at next are:

I added Nigel Lawson (Margaret Thatchers Chancellor of the Exchequer, now a peer) and Roger Helmer.  The latter is not as well known,  but his array of climate change myths probably covers almost half of our list!

Interestingly, the Guardian newspaper recently mentioned this very resource in conjunction with Helmer.  They state "Tip: for extra enjoyment, see how many statements you can find that tally with Skeptical Science's list of climate sceptic canards."  So I have obliged with 4 or 5!

To be fair, Lawson is not strictly a Denier of the basic science of climate change, only the mitigation approach.  His statements and criticisms of the IPCC are however quite outrageous!

I added a few quotes from the Newt, although I had a problem adding a photo of him for some reason.

BTW for some reason the short one liner response to the 'IPCC consensus is phoney' is cut off to this

Ironically, it's those who are mispresenting Hulme's paper that are the ones being misleading.

instead of this,

Claims that the IPCC does not accurately represent the views and findings of the scientists, on whose work the IPCC reports are based, are not supported by the facts. Ironically, it's those who are mispresenting Hulme's paper that are the ones being misleading

doesn't really make sense on it's own, and better to miss out the second sentence altogether.

I managed to find one of Newt, rather larger than the recommended size, but it's only the height/width ratio which needs to be consistent.

Thanks perseus.  I updated the IPCC consensus is phony one-liner to:

"113 nations signed onto the 2007 IPCC report, which is simply a summary of the current body of climate science evidence"
