From a comment at Open mind:

The problem is that AGW is not a theory, it is corollary to the dominant theory of how our climate system works. That is the theory, AGW just falls out of it.

Right to the point in a few words. Congrats to Rattus Norvegicus

The "dominant theory" does not have a name, it's just our understanding of how the earth climate works. In other words, you can not dismiss the "CO2 theory of global warming" without dismissing our understanding of climate altogether.

One of my pet peeves is the inordinate amount of time and energy that we expend explaining and defending how manmade climate change impacts the heat content of the troposphere as measured by annual mean global temperature. The Climate Denial Spin Machine ties us up in knots over this single indicator.

We need to keep reminding ourselves and the opposition, theat the accelerating greenhouse effect impacts all components of the climate system, not just the tropsphere.

We also need to remind everyone that avergae mean global temeprature doesn't really exist and that it masks all kinds of temporal and spatial variations in the heat content of the troposphere over the course of a given year.

*For example, see the marathon slogging session going on between The Ville and climate deniers on the comment thread to "CR would slash EPA, White House energy office" posted today (Feb 12) on Politico.com.

Perhaps finding a way of graphically explaining our Climate as a dynamic heat engine?

The famous Trenberth's graph may be seen as a part of the heat engine. Making one with the heat engine in mind is a good idea.

I don't see why you are pushing the "heat engine" concept:

- What/where is the work being done?

- What correct intuition does such an analogy promote?
