New Report Details How Climate Change Can Destabilize Nations

Shortages of food and water could tip the balance in Afghanistan, Iraq and other politically precarious states

By Dina Fine Maron and ClimateWire | Thursday, January 27, 2011 |

This is a very interesting article. I hjighly recommend that everyone read it.

I can't speak for other countries, but if tackling climate change were to become a national security issue in the US, it would be a game changer.

The CIA has a center studying the Climate Change issue for that reason.

Unfortunately, the Republicans have the knife out for it:

Are you the author who had worked for the CIA?

I ask because I need some help in deciphering the value of a recent report issued by the NAS, "'Monitoring Climate Change Impacts," published in Dec of last year.

A few weeks agoi, I brought this report to John Cook's attention and he asked me to write a blog about it. The committes that created the report included people from the defense and intellegence community as well a scientists from a wide variaty of disciplines.

One of the authors has acknowledged that he/she worked for the CIA. I just cannot recall who it was.
