The expert feedback I am getting to the questions I posed under the "Jet Stream Impact?" thread, prompted me to ask the following additional questions.

The context: My understanding is that the concentration of CO2 molecules for a column of the troposphere declines as one moves from the Earth's surface to the top of the troposphere. Is this correct?

Assuming my premise is correct, what type of function is the concentration of CO2 plotted against altitude? Linear? Logarithmic? Other?

When looking at the classic Keeling plot of CO2 in ppm over time, are the numbers shown the CO2 concentratrion for the altitude of the of the measuring device, or are the measuremsnts taken at that specific altitude factored to represent the CO2 concentration for the entire column of the troposphere?

Does the upper boundary of the troposphere expand and contract over time depending on the mix of gases within it?

What is the total volume of the troposphere?

You could take a look at:

http://www.spectralcalc.com/atmosphere_browser/atmosphere.php

It takes some searching around; and I think you have to register (free!).

It might give only %s, I'm not sure.

I apologize for the incoheremt header for this thread. I was about to edit it, whn one of my fingers hit the wrong button and it was posted.

Is there a way for me to edit it now?

At the lower right-hand side of the top box, there is something only you can see: "Edit"

It's just above the dark-blue bar labeled: "29 Jan 2011, 3:22 AM"

Press it, and then steer down to the bottom of the page.
