Is this worth a blog post in the Muller Misinformation series, from his new book "The Instant Physicist, An Illustrated Guide":

The instant physicist is apparently not a very good physicist. Which I guess isn't surprising! Tough call. He does proceed to say that global warming will continue, but is certainly wrong about it stopping in 1998. Notice at the bottom of the page he also says acidification won't be a problem for 100 years, but at least he says it's a problem. Is this what a "lukewarmer" is - someone who downplays but doesn't deny the science?

dana, I think you are on unsafe ground saying Muller's not a good physicist: By normal standards, he is. The more correct point is that a good physicist is not automatically a good anything else: s/he's got to put time and effort to understand what is going on.

I wasn't referring to Muller, I was referring to the book title. I presume he's trying to turn the reader into an 'instant physicist', but not doing a very good job of it, if this section is any indicator.

Another example of Muller's slippery use of words. |
