Dana, how about providing links to Inhofe's interview, rather than promoting them? That way the reader can focus on your rebuttal.

Yes, it's the debunking handbook again.

beurocrat's dream = bureaucrat (I note it's spelled correctly later on in the post).

Looks good, although it could do with a little satire given the 'nutjobbery ideas' Inhofe has.

I couldn't stand watching past the first few minutes, his lies were outstanding and disgusting.  I wonder Dana if you want to include anything about the origins of the articles he listed, if you search for the quote for instance he attributes to the IPCC (it's not, by the way), you can find some interesting random blog posts that just tear him to shreds.  And the Telegraph being liberal?  Knock me over with a feather for crying out loud.

He also says he has named several thousand scientists, and mumbles that it may have not been by name but by website - I wonder if it's worth looking into whether he refers to the Oregon Petition site or not.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about one of Marc Morano's websites. Which a number of scientists have asked that their names be removed from. That's probably worth mentioning.

Dana,

Once this is up, I'd suggest sending a link or a copy to Maddow's office/team. She/they may decide to do a follow up and really do a slam dunk on Inhofe...

Yes Alby, I was planning to.  I haven't heard back from them on the first email I sent though (regarding their reference to SkS before the interview).

I'm a wee concerned about the title. "Inhofe's Maddow Myths" includes Maddow's name in the issue - whereas the focus is Inhofe who (somewhat coincidentally) presented his Gish Gallop on Maddow's show. Rachel Maddow simply had to deal with it - I wouldn't want her tarred with Inhofe's brush.

Of course, I'm saying that without another pleasing phrasing for the title - my mind is stuck on rhymes for "Inhofe" (http://www.whatrhymeswith.info/inhofe%27s), such as "bake-off's" or "he boffs", which are entirely inappropriate...

Good point KR. How about "Inhofe's myths on the Maddow show"?

"As a climate scientist we're not sure why Lindzen's opinions regarding [cap and trade] legislation are particularly relevant"  Are you sure about this?  If James Hansen spoke 'FOR" cap and trade, I'd think that was relevant.  So I think Richard Lindzen should be allowed his "AGAINST".

I realize that you're objecting to the right wing claptrap - but that's the way James Inhofe talks.  To probe it for serious meaning is wildly inappropriate.  And to jump to something as silly as regulating breathin on a "sounds like"..........Well, it sounds like James Inhofe, in his new book - the Introduction and Chapter One of which can be read on Amazon..........Notice what this is - an assault on Richard Lindzen based on what James Inhofe says about him.  Is that reasonable?

The last sentence of the 5th paragraph of "The Flawed Climate Shift Report" should be changed to something like.........."However, in reality these CORPORATIONS only spent a small fraction of those budgets ON THE SIDE OF THE CLIMATE BILL"..........Because "organizations" seems to refer to environmental organizations.  And, "on climate issues" suggests the more expected outcome, that they are being spent in opposition to the climate bill.

Same Ordinary Fool, while Lindzen is entitled to his opinion about 'cap and trade', I can't understand why a politician would quote him rather than, say, an economist, relevant organisation or politician who is involved with such matters. Why not, even, just give his own opinion, rather than saying "Richard Lindzen from MIT...said" ?

Has Hansen been quoted in the same sort of situation ?

Hansen talks about his cap and dividend plan, but I don't think policymakers ever ask him about it, and I don't think there's any reason they should.  I like the plan personally, but he's no policy expert either.
