Good work John H. This needs a response from an SkS author (or authors) too.

I'm planning on writing up on the paper. I've read through it once, seems pretty reasonable. Some good graphs, and good ones in the supplementary info as well. I hope to finish it before I go out tomorrow night.

As I stated on the Generl Chat thread, Get ready for another Himalayas denier-fest, we should proceed to post both articles.

My blog post is ready to go as soon as someone with superior technical skills can import into the blog post the slide show provided in the JPL news release.

Also, an amzing NASA video can be inserted in the bottom part of the blog post.

We can do both - will aim to post this later today, and then Mark's possibly this weekend or early next week.

I'm not sure we can do the slideshow though - we might just have to pick one or two of the images and insert them individually.

That's the video, not the slideshow, right Daniel?

Correct Dana.  We'd (meaning: you) have to create an animated GIF of the 4 images for them to be embedded as a slide show.  Or just show thumbnails with links to larger versions (I did that on one of the Greenland posts w/ Mauri Pelto).  AFAIK, anyways.

I bet JC could just code up a slide show player for use in the WYSIWYG window.

(yeah, that was a dare/gauntlet)  :)

Yooper,

I tried that before I asked for help. I cut & paste the HTML code for the video into the HTML code version of the blog post. When I saved When I saved and repoened the blog post, the video was not there.

Should I insert the HTML code for the video directly into the WSIWYG version of the blog post?

I see the video in the post already....

I could throw together a quick animated GIF of the 4 slides, if we want to go that route.

JH, the procedure I outlined was what I followed to embed the video in my comment above.  When you first save/submit it, it just shows the embed code as in this comment above (directly below the embedded video comment).

When you re-open the comment/post, the WYSIWYG editor then conjugates the embed code into the video player, which is then viewable to the end user of the post/comment after saving.

Yooper,

Dana is right, the video is embedded. I guess I did it right the first time around. Thanks for the tips though.

If we don't import slides, we could move the video to the beginning of the article.

Dana, if you could import the slideshow that would be great. A distinction needs to be made too, that the glaciers not on the high plateau (above 4000 metres) are rapidly disappearing. Such as the Gangotri glacier which is the source of the Ganges River. This aspect is very clear in the slideshow, it just needs to be pointed out to readers.

Yooper,

Why isn't the video visible in the WSIWYG version of the post?

I'll put it into a GIF this evening.  The captions will be a bit tricky, since each frame/image has its own caption.

It's treated the same as the Green Box (also not displayed in the WYSIWYG window).  It's there, as can be seen upon previewing/refreshing.  But just not in edit mode (no, I don't know the technical reason why).
