Response to the WUWT post in which they claim hardcore denial = intelligent and reasoned skepticism.

Oh, be advised that I used the "D" word several times, though as "denial" and "denying", not "denier".  I was specific about what Glickstein was denying.

- It is ridiculous for Dr. G to suggest a carbon tax when he doesn't believe in the danger. This is intellectually incoherent and morally bankrupt. You should nail him for this: It's stupid, any way you look at it.

- I would use the word "disappointed" in your discussion. It should be as if you had been looking forward to some new insights or observations in his presentation - only to find the same old crap. With one piece of additional nonsense: the point I mentioned above. This, by the way, gets you on the same side as his WUWT detractors - although for slightly different reasons. But that's OK: divide and conquer.

Good points both, neal.  Will revise accordingly.

"The only common ground we could find was in Glickstein's intellectually contradictory capitulation in favor of a carbon tax."

=> "The only common ground we could find was in Glickstein's capitulation in favor of a carbon tax. But his rationale for this? 'We can't win against the tide of global warmists.'  That is an intellectually and morally bankrupt position; if Glickstein had the courage of his convictions, he would stick to his guns.

We do, because, based on the actual evidence, we think it's real."

Something along those lines ...

Reading that skeptic shit, about hockeysticks and CO2, over and over sure is tiring. Rather you than me.

Rob,

Yeah, I'm sure cops get tired of dealing with criminals all the time, too.

But it's their job.

Neal, how many times can the same crap be regurgitated? Until the end of civilization I suspect. And I think you'll find that dealing with criminals is actually one of the easier aspects of Police work; internal politics and the so-called justice dept are real frustrations. For example: why don't lazy bastards ever get poor performance appraisals, let alone the boot?

Anyway, just to be clear, I understand this stuff has to be done. I'm just venting.

Recommend replacing your draft sentence,

"We do, because, based on the actual evidence, we think it's real."

with

"We stick to our guns about anthropogenic global warming because, based on the actual evidence, we know it's real."

Hehe neal, the cop/criminal analogy gave me a good chuckle.  Another good comment - will revise accordingly and look into incorporating your comment too, badger.

Dana, if you've ever watched the TV show The Wire, that pretty much nails it.

This might be a good place for Alley's metaphor (on John's metaphor list) "I saw a chicken lay an egg. That proves that chickens do not come from eggs." Else, this looks great.

Thanks Sarah, very good idea.  Metaphor added.
