I drafted up a blog post on 'The Big Picture' and feedback would be much appreciated.  In addition to the content and format, if you know of a better link than the ones I used, let me know (they're all Skeptical Science links).

There was a glitch with the links which I just fixed. Great summary, I'll feature it in the "Newcomers start here" page (speaking of which, have been meaning to do a button on the homepage linking to that)

A pretty good overview, I’d say.

Where you say “2010 is on pace to be at least in the top 3 hottest years on record”, you might also want to mention that the 12 months ending in July 2010 were the warmest 12 months in the GISS record (second warmest in NCDC).

I'd rather say:

"enhanced growth of some plants and improving agriculture at high latitudes requires use of more fertilizers, "etc"

Well done.

In the section "humans are causing this warming" I'd add, right at the begining, that simple math tells us that the CO2 we emit is more than the actual rise we observe (we has been lucky afterall) and that what simple(and well known and old) physics tells us is that it causes warming.

This is to underline that there should be no surprise in what we see, no strange unexpected physical effect.

Thanks all, I incorporated those changes.  I'm happy to either wait for more comments or publish whenever you'd like, John.  I'll leave it up to you.

BTW, afterwards thought of another page you could link to - when you talk about "the science isn't settled", you could always link to this page:

http://www.skepticalscience.com/settled-science.htm

Am going to update the homepage - replace the "we are causing warming", "warming is still happening" buttons with two new buttons, "newcomers start here", "the big picture". Great post, Dana!

Hi Dana,

if you tweak this intersting blog-entry, could you please share the applied changes via this thread? I've already started to translate the post into German and knowing where I need to look for changes will help me a lot to keep the translation in sync with your original.

Thanks much and Cheers
Baerbel

Will do, Baerbel.  I made some changes soon after publication in response to some constructive comments, but none over the past day or two.  If I make any more changes I'll let you know.

Don't forget to update those buttons on the front page, John.
