I'm going to use this thread as an overview of all the various ideas flying around. If I've missed anything or if something new comes up, post it here (preferably with a link to the relevant thread for reference) and we'll update the lists.

I haven't forgotten the Skeptical Science reading club we discussed few weeks ago. I'm thinking that perhaps we'll start that after summer vacationing time is over here (perhaps in september or something like that).

Just as a reminder, should add Mark D. to the climate scientists explain page.  I don't know that Christy, Monckton, and Lindzen are technically 'done', but certainly on the backburner until they make their next public appearances.

In fact, if we do some sort of response to Monckton's Aussie tour, that should go on the list.

At some point we may want to do Spencer Slip-Ups, but I think that would only be triggered if he makes some sort of public appearance the way Christy has been doing.

Could add the peer-review interactive app to the 'done' list as well.

Maybe add making the weekly summary an email option (as an alternative option to the daily summary) to the 'to do' list.

Oh and actually thoughtful requested a series of posts of what SkSers are doing to reduce their own emissions, which I would suggest combining with some text about what we think should be done on a larger scale as well.

One area I think we can do even more in is Outreach. Ways of reaching out to others w=rather than just waiting for them to just come here to SkS. On idea might be actively soliciting for  subscribers the the Email feed, particularly amongst environmental and activist groups since they are already engaged in the area. And it might be worth while to support activist groups who might be passionate but not always very well informed about AGW.

That might a be time effective way of extending our reach, particularly if we encourage people to pass the email feed on to others.

Ari,

Maybe a task for the reading club could be keeping track of the early history of doubts about AGW. That could help us develop a history for each of the denialist arguments, that could be written up in a very educational way (meaning that people would actually read it and learn something).

Neal, that might be one way to go. However, personally, I'm quite tired of the denialist claims. With the classic papers I just want to show that basic climate science is cool.

Ari,

My point is that it could be a useful output from the study group, that would be not be too far out of the way: Because in seeing the development of the consensus, we should also see the dead-ends that became the denialist arguments of today.

As I have said before, these denialist arguments have literally been taken from the scrapheap of scientific history.

Actually - that's the desmogblog item. Involved in those discussions are SkS, Greenpeace, Desmogblog and I believe someone with connections to Sourcewatch - and excitingly, Shine Technologies!

I was dismayed in the first conversation to learn Desmogblog's information is all in plain HTML. No database. So they're going to have to completely revamp how they do things - hopefully this effort will help that.

Therefore, one other action item that may be paramount:

- Explore options for generating revenue to fund activities.

I think we need to elect someone to collect & maintain the list of proposed activities, so we can prioritize them.

I nominate Badgersouth.

There is some great discussion going on in the Mission Statement thread and we need to settle the overall goals and direction of SkS before getting bogged down in details.

And can I say, Badger, you are seriously hardcore! :-) Am loving your focus and drive, your comments and ideas are a great contribution.
