This is a bit last minute (typical disorganisation from me) but I'm away from Sunday to Wednesday, going to the Naomi Oreskes event in Perth and meeting with Perth scientists about a bunch of stuff. So I've been inspired to do something I've been meaning to do for ages - create a new user level, Admin Author. Until now, there were Pending Authors who could submit blog posts but not publish them, and Full Authors who could publish their blog posts. Admin Authors have the ability to:
  • Edit and publish any rebuttal. Until now, authors could only edit their own rebuttals. But an Admin Author can edit any rebuttal and go live with any rebuttal.
  • Edit any blog post. Until now, only the actual blog author could edit their own blog post, via the Author Admin (or by clicking the 'Edit Blog Post' link at the bottom of their blog posts). Now Admin Authors see that same link beneath the blog post.
  • Go live with any blog post. Until now, only Full Authors could go live with their own post
  • Edit the author of any blog post. By default, the author of any blog post is set to be the logged in user who is editing the post. For Admin Authors, when they edit a blog post, a dropdown appears of all SkS authors. This is useful if you're adding a blog post on behalf of another author.
I've set Dana and Robert as Admin Authors. Sorry guys, this is the first you're hearing of this too :-) Note: I plan to add more - I've just started with Dana and Robert as they're fairly active on the system and shown they can navigate the treacherous waters of the WYWIWYG system. But I'd like to add more admin authors, so that when I'm not available (or occupied with other stuff like the Guide), others have the ability to unclog any bottlenecks or kick things along if they need it.

Okey dokey.  People will have to let me know if they want me to publish something while John is out.  Have fun at the Oreskes event, John!  You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back.

Hi Dana or Robert if you’re there,

The first of my Climategate posts is ready for publication. Could you please publish it for me?

Thanks,

James

Okay, still here for the moment so I've gone ahead and published this. Feel free to publish your follow-up posts as you see fit.

Will move your post into the Blog Posts forum too.

In the course of preparing the translations I sometimes notice typos or outdated links in the original posts (both for blogs and arguments). Just now I for example noticed that the link to the IAP-statement about ocean acidification no longer works, so I posted a comment on the thread that the link needs to be updated. If nobody objects, John could give me "Admin Author" privileges as well and I could then quickly make these types of updates myself.

Cheers
Baerbel

Baerbel, I've updated your account, you're now an admin author. Instructions on the secret handshake are in the mail :-)

Seriously though, the admin authors is not meant to be a tiny and exclusive group. Anyone who's been fairly active on the forum, have posted blog posts/translations, have shown they are comfortable with the technical aspects of the admin system (some knowledge of HTML helps) and have a level head on their shoulders, just post here to let me know if you'd like to be upgraded to 'admin author' status.

If you still have that need, I am willing.

HTML hasn't been the big bugaboo I thought it'd be when I first started tinkering under its hood (I know, don't speak too soon)...   :)

I find my time-chunks available are more conducive towards admin/moderation anyway.

(yes, I'm still hacking away on 2 blog posts...I'll finish before the Palin administration takes over)

Daniel, have updated your account also. Expect your decoder ring any day now.

The words Palin and administration should never be in such close proximity.

Should have said Palin "administration" (in pure Homer Simpson voice).

My bad (and ours, collectively, should it come to that).

Thanks, John!

I just checked and I see the "Edit Blog Post" link when I'm displaying a blog-post. I don't however see a corresponding link when I'm displaying one of the rebuttals (and I already tried with completely reloading the page to not get the cached version). Am I looking in the wrong place?

Cheers

For now, you'll need to edit rebuttals by clicking the 'Rebuttal List' linkin the left margin here on the forum. But I'll add that feature shortly.
